DK, I heard you're in Costa Rica these days.

I'm hitting Gulf of Papagayo in Guanacaste March 10th-14th and was looking for advice on a couple things to hit/places to see. I'll be on vacation, so no business-y type stuff, hehe. I'll also have my 12 year old son with me, so no strip clubs ;-)

DK or anyone else have suggestions? I've already booked a trip to Africa Mia and one of those zip line/canopy tours and I'm staying at the Occidental Grand which has a lot to do , but I'm really looking for non-tourist-y type stuff. I don't want to travel all the way to Central America just to run into more people from the USA ;-)

yeah, I'm behind the times....I had actually mentioned the CR trip on another board and they said "DK is down there".

Even if he still isn't, I'm sure he could recommend a place or two, hehe

Hey Sykk,
I was there for the last 4 years. Just cam e back before Christmas.
Costa Rica is everything cheap and in extremes. I barely escaped lol

Having a kid and not wanting to run into other Americans will be hard. The last two years we have infested the place.

Here is where I recommend for the non party life there.

Visit the volcano in La Fortuna (fucking amazing)
http://www.fortunawelcome.com/
Great food and restuarants there

Visit the rain forest in Monteverde (Zip line tours etc)
http://www.monteverdeinfo.com/photo_gallery.htm

Visit Tamarindo Beaches (Jaco is hookers and black sand)
http://www.visittamarindo.com/

Brush up on your Spanish. Local very rarely speak any english and wont even try to understand you in english. The places your going you may find more english speakers tho. Right now It's Summer in Costa Rica. Its very hot :)

Thanks :)

I don't want to totally avoid Americans. I was just looking for a couple other additional places that might be more of a "local's secret"

Thanks for the tips on other places to check out. I'm definitely burhsing up on the spanish :)

Trust me bro.
You do not want Local. You have a very good chance at being robbed at gunpoint. Living there, every house has 10 foot high fences with barbed wire and most have hired security guards.

That being said, In 4 years there I didn't have one problem but I knew where and where not to go.

Just use a little more than normal caution, dont wear jewelry, dont flash money and dont go solo anywhere.

:)

hehe, ok, got it
thanks:)

There is a ton of stuff to do at the Occidental, but I figured I would try and see what else was going on in that area.

I've never been the flashy type and knowing it is a third world country, that money, etc. need to be kept firmly in the pocket and out of site :)
