I've been going nuts lately trying to filter out all of the spam coming into my mailboxes. I have an accout with Spamarrest, but even that doesn't get everything it seems.

I've been thinking of using gmail as my default email client. I was wondering if anyone else uses this as well?

Are there any drawbacks?

I was thinking I could still download mail to my outlook for archive purposes. I use my outlook calendar on a regular basis, so I don't want to lose that feature.

Any other suggestions?

I use both spam arrest and gmail as well. Both are pretty good at keeping out spam, but neither are infallible. I don't think you'll find anything that is 100% spam proof but if you do, be sure to let us know.

I am thinking I can use Gmail to filter majority of the spam out after it his spamarrest. So far it seems to be working good.

It's going to take some getting used to, but I like that I can configure it to download to my cell phone as well while still keeping a copy on the server.

procmail+SpamAssassin -- use it, learn it, know it.

I route my emails via Gmail which seems to have the best spam filter these days. The built in ones in Thunderbird or any other regular email client just do not cut it anymore. Average spams I get a day is about 1000 or so - using Gmail to filter my POPs takes out 95 % of the spams. Which is pretty good.

So once you filter them you forward them on, or do you just check Gmail via POP with your regular email client?

I have it set up so that gmail checks my pop accounts directly, then i download from gmail to my regular email client locally.

Perfect. I am actually doing that now as well. The only downfall is when I reply I have to remember to select which account I want it to come from. lol.

Not necessarily, you can set it up with multiple gmail accounts - one for each POP you have. Then you don't have to choose account.

One would think I was smart enough to think of that! hahaha
